Homer Johnson Family Papers 1856-1957 1880-1900.

Documenting the early years of Homer Johnson's life, this collection is largely comprised of the letters written to and from Johnson family members; the courtship correspondence of Homer Johnson and Nettie Whitcomb (1882-1888), and the letters written between Homer and his parents while he was a student at Amherst College, Oberlin College, and Harvard University (1858-1915), which were later inherited by Homer Johnson, are the most significant units of documentation in this group. In addition to his student years, coverage exists on his early career as a lawyer and a father. No information is extant concerning his involvement on the Oberlin College Board of Trustees, the execution of Charles Martin Hall's will, or his years as an older man. The correspondence of other Johnson family members mainly cover routine matters. Printed materials and publications, the school papers of Homer Johnson, and photographs round out this collection.
